Superintendent Registrar

Family History Key Records – Handwritten copies of Baptism, Marriage and Burial Registers from the Church of England Churches prior to 1842, Civil registers of all Jersey Marriages from 1842 and post 1842 Indexes of Births, Marriages and Deaths (the indexes have now been fully scanned and are available to ACO subscribers).

The handwritten transcriptions of Baptism, Marriage and Burial registers completed by Messervy in the late 19th century, reference D/E/A are useful for confirming entries and their use has enabled the original registers to be closed for long term preservation. They date from 1540 to 1842.

The Civil registers of all Jersey Marriages from 1842 onwards, reference D/E/B, record vital information for family history research including the date, age, profession, date of birth and name of father of the bride and groom.

The Indexes of Births, Marriages and Deaths, reference D/E/E, D/E/F and D/E/G, are an alphabetised list of all births, marriages and deaths that have taken place in the Island since 1842 into the twentieth century and in some cases into the twenty-first century.  Each entry has a page number, which corresponds to the records held at the Office of the Superintendent Registrar (and the marriages held by the Jersey Archive under the reference D/E/B).  The indexes have all been scanned and are available to subscribers to the Archives and Collections Online catalogue.
