Scope and Content An accurate survey and measurement of the island of Jersey surveyed by order of his grace the Duke of Richmond, Master General of the Ordnance by the following surveying draftsmen: William Gardner Chief, Thomas Cubitt, Henry Lanzan, George Pink, Thomas Yeakell, Thomas Gream. Engraved by John Warner. (States Greffe stamp 09/09/1908 and words 'Defense Livre 10 page 69) The British Government responded to the growing French threat at the end of the eighteenth century by surveying the areas most at risk. As the Richmond map contained information useful to the enemy it was not made available to the public for another fifty years after 1795. (Very large map - folded)
