Letter written in German from Graf Von Schmettow to Miss Lily Belle White secretary of Samares Manor Jersey. He gives his location as a hospital in the remote Austrial Alps and requests information about the fate of his subordinates and about the fate of the Island. He also writes that Baroness Aufsess and her three infant children are also living in the same place and . He is deeply concerned about the fate of his fellow officers and he writes of being removed from his position and from the Islands and that he hoped his successor would carry on in the same spirit and method that he had followed. He worries that discipline and decent behaviour have been maintained to the end... .. He has has no communication with his relations except one daughter who is a refugee in Salzburg where she is allowed to stay but is not welcome. He writes that not knowing the fate of his family is eating away at him [this letter was orginally enclosed in the letter catalogued as A/A12/2] [Includes transcription and translation]
