Scope and Content | Includes comments by [Child Care Officers] H J [H Jackson], L B [Lois Bygrave], S C [S Coulson], J H T [Jim Thomson], J S [Joan Syvret], M P [M Preece], C A S [Charles Smith] and [the Children's Officer, Patricia Thornton]. Refers to children who have left their foster homes, including a girl being cared for by her grandmother and boy returning to the care of his mother. Also includes comments about a girl for whom arrangements had been made by the Public Health Committee to move to her to a special nursery, noting request by Mr Mourant, Administrator of the General Hospital, for the Education Committee to take over financial responsibility for the girl when of school age. Also includes comments about children who have been placed in foster homes, including notes about the person financially responsible for each child. Refers to a child boarded-out with their grandparents and agreement by the Constable of St Helier to a boarding-out payment for each grandparent due to the grandmother ceasing work to care for the children. Also refers to children placed in foster homes due to ill-health of a parent and marital difficulties in his foster home. Describes general matters concerning children in care. Includes comments about a girl who left her father's home to live in a guest house before shortly moving into lodgings, a child referred by Dr [J P] Fogarty because of marital and housing difficulties, a child moved to England who [mother] was admitted to St Saviour's Hospital, a child on probation, a child returning home to her foster father and seen to by Dr Fogarty, a careleaver and her baby admitted to Elizabeth House, a child at Stonelake [Stokelake] House, Chudleigh, Devon, a boy who obtained work with the help of the Rotary Vocational Guidance Committee, a family who have been given the tenancy of States' House, a child and her referred to [the Education Committee] by a member of staff at Brig-y-Don, and children to remain their own home under regular supervision, noting their health difficulties and help from the District Nurse and Constable of St Peter. Also includes comments about Witness 358 by Child Care Officer M Preece, noting her discharge from Haut de la Garenne against the advice of [the Education Committee] after her mother took her out without returning her. Notes Witness 358's absence school and failure to settle into her flat and request to take Witness 358 back into care. Recommends that Care and Protection proceedings be taken in respect of Witness 358 to avoid repetition of events.
