Scope and Content Refers to Witness 125 being born prematurely in 1967 when [his mother] was aged 19 shortly after her arrival in Jersey. Provides background information about [Witness 125's mother], referring to her suffering emotional and drinking problems. States that [Witness 125's mother] was forced to let Witness 125 live with foster parents after 11 months of care, stating to have no necessarily agreed with the decision. Refers to Witness 125 being diagnosed as backward from an early age, as prone to bouts of bad behaviour and violence, and suffered from feelings of rejection. Outlines time spent by Witness 125 in foster care before admission to Haut de la Garenne in 1972 where he remained until 1983. Recalls visiting Witness 125 regularly and taking him out for the day. Includes positive recollections of a female member of staff at Haut de la Garenne who was a nurse or a carer at the Home. Recalls Witness 125 talking about a male resident at Haut de la Garenne, commenting on possible influence such residents had over Witness 125 in respect of amount of time he spent in the punishment room. Refers to a surprise birthday party held for him which Witness 125's mother attended. Recalls asking Witness 125 around this period of time whether he had ever been abused at Haut de la Garenne. States that Witness 125 told him that he had been abused but was not allowed to discuss matters with any person. Recalls asking Witness 125 why he did not report abuse contemporaneously and Witness 125 stating that he was too frightened. Comments on Witness 125's veracity and trustworthiness. Describes change in Witness 125's manner after he left Haut de la Garenne, referring to him becoming more confident, sociable and mature.
