Scope and Content | Background and Early Life States that he was born in England, moving to Jersey at a young age. States that he was removed from the family home when he was 4 due to domestic violence by his father towards his mother and went to live with his grandmother. Le Squez Children's Home [Family Group Home] Refers to attendance at Le Squez Children's Home as being part of the conditions of him living with his grandmother. Notes that original arrangement was for him to go to Le Squez each evening after school before returning to his grandmother's house in the evening. [Later amends statement to read that he was sent to Le Squez because of his behaviour as he was older]. Includes a description of the property at Le Squez and notes that the home was run by Allen [Alan] and Jane Maguire. Includes recollections of the layout of the Home, remarks about sleeping arrangements and recollections of other children at the Home. Describes physical abuse by Allan [Alan] Maguire as punishment for the slightest misdemeanour, referring to the use of fists, hands and a leather belt to hit children. Recalls that punishment would be givenin front of the other children. Recalls seeing bruises on other children and states to have no recollection of having any medical treatment. Refers to an incident where Jane Maguire hit a boy with a rolling pin and recalls incident where one child was physically abused. Describes treatment by Jane Maguire towards him. Describes being physically abused by Allan [Alan] Maguire on three occasions by means of having his mouth washed out with soap. States that he once complained to his children's officer about mistreatment and punishments, noting usual response to complaints. Recalls a strange atmosphere surrounding the girls at Le Squez, recalling that the Maguires would teach sex education to the girls from a young age. Recalls sleeping over at the Home on occasions, referring to an incident of possible sexual abuse where he saw Alan Maguire in the bed of one of girls. States that Alan Maguire physically abused him when Maguire noticed that he was witnessing the incident. Describes the impact of the incident on him. Events since leaving Care Describes seeing the girl [that he witnessed being sexually abused by Alan Maguire] on a night out and being informed about a court case against Allan [Alan] Maguire and subsequent discussion about their experiences. Notes that the Police never contacted him. Describes impact of the short period he was at Le Squez between the ages of 9 and 11 on his life, describing feelings of shame and periods of depression. Asserts that he has never discussed his negative experiences at Le Squez. |
