Scope and Content Background and Early Life Includes comments about her childhood, referring to alcoholism of both parents. States that she was sent to Haut de la Garenne in 1977 following intervention by her aunt and uncle. Institutions States that she was sent to Haut de la Garenne in 1977 and left on 18 April 1979. Recalls there being about 60 children in residence with a variety of backgrounds sent there by the courts or because of family circumstances. Recalls four groups of children: Aviemore, Baintree, Claymore and Dunluce. Refers to placement into Baintree group, recalling a number of houseparents and staff including Morag Kidd as well as other children in residence. Describes intial impressions of Haut de la Garenne, including remarks about daily routine compared to life at home. Recalls being sent to the [family group] home at 108 Clos des Sables when she was aged 9. Includes comments about staff at Clos des Sables, including Leslie Hughes, recalling that she warned by another resident about Hughes on her first night. States that she left Clos des Sables in 1986, referring to routines at the home and occasional travel. Abuse and Consequences Describes physical and emotional abuse by Morag Kidd and another member of staff in Baintree at Haut de la Garenne. Describes incidences of these staff listening on the intercom system and physically abusing children as punishment for talking after lights out. Recalls wetting the bed as a result of abuse and subsequently being humiliated by these staff. Recalls Leslie Hughes being arrested charged with sexually abusing children, referring to role of an individual in the case against Leslie Hughes and as support for one of the victims. Refers to someone saying that the Children's Service could not deal with the problems of abuse by Leslie Hughes.
