Scope and Content • Tape 1 (16/04/2004/BC/1B). 24 pages. Begins with reference to the man having been arrested by Detective Inspector Bonney on allegations of buggery, indecent assault and acts of gross indecency on a former resident at Haut de la Garenne between 1963 and 1969 when the former resident was aged between 8 and 14. Includes discussion about the man’s rights whilst under caution and the man’s denial of the allegations against him. Includes details of a discussion about the man’s association with a former resident of Haut de la Garenne. Notes that he recognises the former resident's name and provides his account of how he came about visiting Haut de la Garenne, stating that he would take out groups of children for trips to the beach, café or cinema. Recalls being asked by staff at the Home to take children out after being invited by someone associated with Haut de la Garenne who he met in a bar. States that there was no vetting procedure and that he had no choice over who he took out. Includes a description by the man of visits to the beach, stating that both boys and girls came on these trips and asserting that never undressed or dressed the children. States that he is willing to sign a medical authority to allow the Police to go to his past medical records. Also includes a discussion about a log compiled from the examination of the man’s attendance and the release of children from Haut de la Garenne starting in June 1963. Includes comments about individual children recorded as having gone out with the man on specific dates and comments by the man about having no recollection of taking children out on their own. Includes a discussion about items recovered during a search of the man’s home address including a notebook.
