Scope and Content 1. . Witness Statement of a member of staff at the Group Home at 108 Clos des Sables to the States of Jersey Police in respect of an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse made by former residents of Clos des Sables against Leslie Hughes. Signature witnessed by Detective Sergeant R F Bonney. Dated 25 April 1989. Provides details of her employment with the Education Department at the Group Home at 108 Clos des Sables since October 1972, providing details of her duties and responsibilities at the home in relation to Leslie Hughes and [Janet Hughes]. Includes recollections of a number of children at the home and remarks about Les [Hughes] and [Janet Hughes]. Refers to annual leave taken by [Janet Hughes], and recalls years spent employed with [Janet Hughes] and Leslie Hughes. Recalls incident where a former resident at Clos des Sables disclosed to her information regarding inappropriate behaviour and potential sexual abuse by Les [Hughes]. Notes reason for doubting validity of the disclosure, referring to a conversation with a male informing him of the disclosure, remarks by him and decision made to not tell the Children's Office. Recalls another former resident later telling her that Les Hughes had been sexually abusing her, stating that her reaction was to encourage the girl to report the matter to the police, but that the girl did not. Includes comments about the allegations made against Hughes in light of her own opinion of him, finishing with reflection on her own actions and decision with the benefit of hindsight. 2. Refers to a recent court case, and the organisation of a meeting in which [Janet Hughes'] future plans and possible employment options can be discussed. 3.
