Scope and Content | 1. Newscutting from the Jersey Evening Post regarding child protection in the aftermath of the conviction and sentencing of Andrew Jervis-Dykes for the sexual abuse of children. Includes titles The road to recovery, 'Welfare of a child will always be our primary concern', and Who to turn to. Dated 29 April 1999. Discusses effect of criminal and court proceedings against Andrew Jervis-Dykes on his victims, and provides advice from Social Services manager Marnie Baudains regarding victims' experiences following disclosures of abuse, and support to be provided to victims. Also provides advice and support from the States of Jersey Police's Family Protection Team, as well as information for parents, young people, and victims regarding abuse. Discusses child abuse in Jersey, and action taken by Children's Services to support victims of abuse, and investigate referrals regarding child abuse. Refers to child protection, abuse, homelessness, and parenthood. 4. Article titled To Mother with Love by Annette Liron. Undated, c. 1990s. Provides history of Mothering Sunday. 5. Newscuttings titled Conference to discuss emotional abuse of children by Diane Simon. Dated 1998. Refers to a conference to be held at the Grand Hotel, and discussion regarding the emotional abuse of children. Refers to speakers from Jersey and further afield who will be addressing the conference. 6. Article from Community Care titled Jersey: children not currently at risk. By Maria Ahmed. Dated 13 March 2008. Discusses findings by Andrew Williamson regarding his review of child protection in Jersey. 7. Newscutting from the Jersey Evening Post titled Child protection group launch safety mannual. By Diane Simon. Dated 2001. Refers to the publication of a manual containing child protection guidelines and posters to be distributed to all child agencies including schools, nurseries and youth clubs as part of a project launched by the Jersey Child Protection Committee. Includes reference to work by Detective Inspector Barry Faudemer and Barbara Bell (Manager, Family Nursing and Home Care) and comments about aspects of the project relating to child abuse, referring to appropriate pick-up of situations, thresholds in relations to definions of abuse, neglect and sexual abuse, and reporting incidents.
