| Scope and Content | Sets out the policy statement on child protection and includes an introduction outlining the legal position with regards to the concept of significant harm, the duty of the Health and Social Services Committee to investigate, welfare of the child and working in partnership. Outlines procedure regarding: referrals to the Children's Service where there are child welfare concerns; immediate protection; strategy discussion detailing circumstances and responsibilities; child protection enquiries conducted under Article 49 of the Children (Jersey) Law 2002; medical examination; video recorded interviews; interviewing children who are disabled; post-interview evaluation; the initial child protection case conference; action following the initial child protection conference; child protection review conference; looked after children; pre-birth child protection conferences; the child protection register; child protection in specific circumstances including children living away from home, allegations of abuse against staff, foster carers or volunteers, investigating organised or multiple abuse, abuse of children with disabilities, abuse by children and young people, domestic violence, child pornography and the internet, and child protection allegations in the midst of court welfare proceedings; Serious Case Reviews; and training. Includes an appendix listing ten pitfalls and guidance on how to avoid them, and a glossary of terms. |
