Scope and Content

The Employment and Social Security Department has the following four key aims; the support of Jersey people and their dependants; the provision of financial help to those who cannot keep themselves; helping people to remain employed in a changing labour market and helping people to develop their skills and contribute to a quality workforce. The provision of Social Security was established in Jersey in 1951. The collection includes records relating to the finances of the Department, and the functions of the Department that relate to Health and Family Allowances.
