Public Services Department/Transport and Technical Services/Department for Infrastructure
|Scope and Content|
The Public Services Department is the result of a merger between two former Departments; Resources Recovery Board and Public Works. The Department is divided into five divisions, each with it's own Director; Architectural Services, Municipal Services, Corporate Resources, Transport and Traffic and Waste Management. Architectural Services are provided for the public sector and other bodies with direct links to the States of Jersey. The Division provides all States committees and Departments with a complete service related to building capital projects, contract preparation and site supervision. The area of municipal services is a broad one and is for the most part allied to the appearance of the public areas. How the Island looks is important for various reasons including hygiene, safety, the tourist industry and the general well-being of Islanders. Jersey is an Island known for taking a pride in its appearance. Corporate Resources is the Directorate that provides the essential support services for the Department. The Water Resources section has also been incorporated into the Directorate, allowing independence from the other operational areas of PSd where there could be conflict due to the regulatory nature of some of its work. Transport and Traffic is the Division is responsible for the provision and development of a sustainable programme management of transport systems, the maintenance of existing transport assets and the improvement of the traffic and transport network. Waste Management is the Division responsible for the management of waste, from the day-to-day disposal to planning for a sustainable future including the design, provision and maintenance of the sewer and drainage systems and the systems that support them. This team provides a function vital to the well being of the whole community. They design the systems which ensure that the Island's liquid waste is disposed of efficiently. At the start of 2016 the Transport and Technical Services Department was renamed as the Department for Infrastructure.
