Ordnance Yard

Scope and Content

During the early 1980s the Procureurs of the Vingtaine de la Ville undertook the task of cleaning up Ordnance Yard, which had become neglected and run down. It was mooted that the yard could be compulsarily purchased by the States. The land had orginally been owned by a Matthieu or Matthew Gosset who died in 1799, but owing to a legal problem with the contract of Partage (division of real estate after death) between his heirs, ownership of the yard was unclear. The Procureurs thefore attempted to trace any living descendants of Matthieu Gosset before any purchase could go ahead.
