Scope and Content | Relates to Chief Minister Senator Terry Le Sueur’s statement on Haut de la Garenne dated December 2010, and the Chief Minister’s apology on behalf of the Island’s government, to the children who were abused. Criticises the Chief Minister’s apology for not talking about the physical and psychological pain suffered by victims. Refers to their own abuse starting at the age of one month, citing evidence from General Hospital consultant H C Durrel, and that Children’s Services were aware of this abuse from in October 1966. Mentions early life at Elizabeth House, La Chasse Centre, and Brig-y-don. Describes receiving their medical records, and the gap in their records during their time at Haut de la Garenne. Describes being advised to keep some of their experiences private from the police in order to protect themselves at a later date. Describes writing to Chief Minister Ian Gorst on several occasions concerning inadequate compensation offered to victims, and criticises the Jersey establishment for a perceived lack of sympathy towards victims, citing the Historic Abuse Redress Scheme as a contributing factor for this feeling. Apologises to those they have offended against, and cites contributing factors stemming from their experiences of abuse whilst in the care of the States of Jersey. Criticises sentences of Morag Jordan (née Kidd) and Tony Jordan, as well as the actions of the States of Jersey, and judiciary, including Her Majesty’s Attorney General William Bailhache. Refers to inconsistencies between the Attorney General’s behaviour and an interview the Attorney General’s conducted with The Times in 2008. Describes instances of physical abuse by Morag Jordan, and sexual abuse by an individual. Lists Morag Jordan, Tony Jordan, Tony Whatton, Jim Thomson, Colin Tilbrook, other individuals, Jersey politicians, clergy, and organisations such as the Jersey Sea Cadets and Jersey Sailing Club. Also lists residents at Haut de la Garenne who had died before the letter was written. |
