Scope and Content

Refers to Chief Minister Senator Terry Le Sueur’s statement and apology concerning victims who were abused whilst in the care of the States of Jersey. Suggests wording of the statement offers legal liability to victims, as a route for compensation. Mentions submitting their application to the Historic Abuse Redress Scheme in 2010 and having not received any payment from the scheme four years later. Criticises Scheme lawyers and psychiatrists for their behaviour towards victims who have been giving evidence of their experiences. Adds that they have wanted to be certain of the events they have recounted, and that they have not been more specific on certain matters due to the involvement of alcohol in some instances of abuse, and the amount of abuse that occurred.
