Scope and Content

Background and Home Life Gives details of background and early years. Born in Jersey in 1969 after mother moved to the island to find work whilst pregnant. Recollections of being taken into foster care at early age, but mother subsequently regaining custody after 10 months. Institutions Includes references to their time at Haut de la Garenne. Recollections of the property, their dormitory, other children in residence and staff and individuals including Mr Tilbrook, Morag Kidd, Tony Jordan, Tony Hopkins [presumed to be Tony Watton] and a lady named Faye. Also gives details of their earliest memories of being at the home. Includes recollection of running away from Haut de la Garenne with other children on one occasion and subsequent reaction of Morag Kidd. Recalls being at Haut de la Garenne until the age of 5, returning aged 9 or 10 for approximately six months as his mother had to care for his terminally ill aunt. Recollections of behaviour at school worsening during duration of second stay at Haut de la Garenne, mentioning De La Salle College. Includes recollections of having recurring nightmares whilst at Haut de la Garenne. Abuse and Consequences Descriptions of physical abuse by Morag Kidd. Recollections of injuries suffered mentioning receiving a black eye. Describes being forced by Morag Kidd to take ice cold baths, referencing subsequent assault. Also gives details of witnessing repeated incidents of physical abuse by Morag Kidd towards a boy at Haut de la Garenne. Describes an atmosphere of violence and physical abuse prevalent during their time at Haut de la Garenne. Give details of an incident involving Mr Tilbrook that took place in the offices at the front of the property at Haut de la Garenne. Give details of being asleep for the duration of a day trip to the beach, expressing suspicions in hindsight that they had been drugged. Explains how they did not discuss or report the abuse they experienced at Haut de la Garenne to anyone other than their mother since leaving care.
