|Scope and Content|
Names the Solicitor General [Mr P L Crill], [the Children's Officer] Miss P L Thornton and Mr C H Tilbrook [Superintendent, Haut de la Garenne] as present at the conference. Refers to opinion of Mr A Downer, Headmaster of St Helier Boys' School, that it would be better for Witness 355 to remain at Haut de la Garenne rather than go to an Approved School. Notes joint feelings of the attendees of the conference that Witness 355 would be more likely to benefit at Haut de la Garenne where contact with his family can be maintained rather than sending him away from the Island. Gives details of subsequent telephone conversation between the Solicitor General and Miss Goss of the Home Office informing that the [Royal] Court was to be asked to vary the [Approved School] Order so that Witness 355 would be committed to the care of the Education Committee and remain in Jersey at Haut de la Garenne. [For an Order of the Royal Court made in respect of Witness 355 varying the [Approved School] Order so that Witness 355 be committed to the care of the Education Committee, see C/D/AW1/A3/C/D/AW1/A3/6/1/42/WD001510].
