Gives details of emotional effects of abuse, noting long-term impact of actions of [Gordon] Wateridge at Haut de la Garenne on her whole life. Also describes impact of abuse on Witnes 397's social activities, noting recent realisation of the extent of the impact of her experiences on her life. Recalls crying on a daily basis as a child, describing feelings of worthlessness as a child as carrying on through her adult life. Recalls leaving Jersey on a ferry aged 17 and living in squats, citing desire to escape her past experiences and take control of her life. Comments on relationship history, describing first marriage to a violent man with whom she had a number of children in want of having a normal family, asserting lack of regret about having the children. Details leaving her first husband after eventually gaining the courage followed by relationship with a man with an abusive power and control complex. Describes inability to break a cycle of being controlled which existed throughout her life. Refers to joining a counselling course in an attempt to use her personal experiences to help others. Describes emotional impact of the course, noting long-term impact of treatment by Wateridge on her life.
