1. Application Form: Personal details: Born in Jersey in 1947. Details of care: States to have been in the full-time residential care of the States of Jersey at Haut de la Garenne [Jersey Home for Boys] between 1952 and 1956. Outlines reason for him and [his brother] being put into the Home by their mother and remarks about family events. States that he is unable to remember names of other children who he was friends or associates with when in care. Abuse alleged to have taken place: Describes being emotionally abused by staff and older boys at Haut de la Garenne. States that he was subjected to sustained physical abuse, describing different forms of abuse, outlining reasons given for punishment and remarks about punishment for bedwetting. Also refers to long term injuries possibly sustained as a result of abuse. Complaints of abuse: States that he only ever complained to his mother about abuse, noting lack of action take by her and note that she is deceased. Criminal proceedings: Cites the facts that he was never approached by the police and was not subjected to sexual abuse as reason for not having provided a statement to the police. States that he is unaware whether persons named as abusers have been subject to criminal proceedings. States that he recalls two headmasters at the school, including Mr Maggs, with Mr Maggs being the worst. Declaration of truthfulness: Signed on 30 September 2012.
