Scope and Content

Refers to adaptations carried out at Haut de la Garenne, considerable movement of children at Haut de la Garenne and Westaway Crèche including the reception of children into care because of behaviour problems and reference a girl from Haut de la Garenne winning an open scholarship to the Jersey College for Girls. Also refers to a visit by Lady Erskine and remarks about the second Foster Parents Get Together held in May [1961] at the Pomme D'Or Hotel. Provides details about the number of children in the care of the Education Committee on the 31 December 1962 in foster homes, lodgings and hostel, the Family Group Home, Haut de la Garenne, Westaway Crèche and other residential establishments including Boys' Army and Merchant Navy. Compares the number of children in care per thousand of the population to the average in Great Britain. Also refers to remand work, children in Approved Schools in England, after care provision and children privately placed by their parents in foster homes and supervised by child care staff. Includes a statistical breakdown of reasons for admissions to and discharges from Westaway Crèche and Haut de la Garenne.
