• Letter dated 5 December 1972 from Mr Murphy to Mr Smith. Notes that as at 5 April 1973 it would be two years since boarding-out rates last increased. Notes that the new rates show a 20% increase over the existing rates. • Revised scale of allowances to foster parents as from 5 April 1973 by the Social Services Department, Cornwall County Council. Provides a breakdown of proposed new rates to be paid to foster parents in Cornwall from 5 April 1973 for children not in full employment per age groups, covering weekly maintenance, weekly pocket money and clothing per week. Also includes comments about initial clothing allowances, purchase of special clothing and equipment for a boarded-out child on transfer to secondary school, additional clothing grant to boarded-out children leaving school and taking up employment, payment of allowance for when a child is in hospital, payment of maintenance allowance when a child goes away on holiday apart from foster parents, grants for holidays, additional maintenance rates and exceptional expenditure, Christmas allowance, birthday allowance and retainer fees. Also provides a breakdown of proposed new rates to be paid to foster parents for employed children aged 15, 16 and 17, covering maintenance, savings for clothing renewals and pocket money, including remarks about exclusions to net wages. Also includes comments about special cases regarding increases in the allowance paid to foster parents of handicapped children and other special circumstances.
