• Case Note by [Brenda Chappell, Senior Child Care Officer] concerning Witness 167. Undated, c. 15 May 1980. Describes visiting Haut de la Garenne on 15 May [1980]. Notes that Mr [A J] Marks, Head of Lower School at Le Rocquier [School] arrived during the visit to inform staff of information concerning Witness 167 that he had acquired from another girl's disclosure that Witness 167 had been having unlawful sexual intercourse with a boy. Refers to comments by a member of staff about staff being impressed with Witness 167's behaviour at Haut de la Garenne, remarks by Mr Davenport about the nature of the association, and concerns expressed by Mr Marks about the boy in question and Witness 167's safety if she were allowed to return to her foster home. Notes Mr Marks' reluctance to break confidence with Witness 167 when informed that information concerning any criminal offences committed against Witness 167 must be given to the authorities. Details agreement with regards to action to be taken in respect of pursuing the allegations. • Extract from a Case Note by the Children's Officer [Charles Smith] about Witness 167 and her sibling. Refers to a discussion about [Witness 167's sibling's] hospitalisation, noting remarks about the manner by which [Witness 167's foster mother] acted. Describes telling [the foster mother] that when [Witness 167's sibling] had to be moved to Southampton that she should have been informed the Children's Office immediately. Describes telling [the foster mother] that the Education Committee would wish to reimburse her the £106 she paid to accompany [Witness 167's sibling] and for her board and lodging for the duration of her stay in Southampton. Refers to [Witness 167's sibling's] surgery in Southampton, naming Dr Leadbeater. Describing informing [the foster mother] that [Witness 167's sibling] must not seek employment whilst in recovery. Also asserts that no pressure should be put on [Witness 167's foster] or Witness 167 regarding her return home, noting possibility of her being transfered to a Group Home or the Girls Hostel.
