Scope and Content

Refers to placement on remand at Les Chênes by the courts in 1984 for breaking and entering and stealing, referring to appearances at the Juvenile Court and the Royal Court. Includes recollections of the Headmaster and the Deputy Headmaster, and details about the layout of the main building Les Chênes including the secure cells. Also refers to the points system in operation at Les Chênes. Includes recollection of an incident involving [Witness 246] where he physically assaulted them in the art room and woodwork room. Describes [Witness 246] as a bully and an alcoholic, recalling that he always smelt of whiskey including at the time of the assault. Includes a description of [Witness 246's] physical appearance. Describes telling a friend, police officers, parents and the Bailiff Sir Peter Crill about the incident, noting response of the police and the Bailiff. Describes awareness that [a member of staff] would physically abuse other children with a method known as pinballing, referring to a specific incident involving a resident at Les Chênes. Refers to having had a meeting with other residents at the Arts Centre. Also includes reference to incidents of assault by members of staff on children, and recollections of a male resident. Describes impact of her time at Les Chênes on her life, comments about her academic performance and comments about the specific impact of [Witness 246] on her life.
