Scope and Content | 1. an Extract from Part B of Minutes of the 82nd Meeting of the Council of Ministers dated 22 May 2008. [B4]: Recommends that the Minister for Treasury and Resources proceed to lodge au Greffe a report and proposition to secure additional funding for all costs attributable to the historic child abuse inquiry both presently and in future. B5: Refers to discussion of the status of the historic abuse inquiry, particularly in relation to media reporting of evidential status of certain exhibits identified during excavations and searches at Haut de la Garenne. Notes consideration that Chief Minister should seek written confirmation from the Minister for Home Affairs regarding political accountability in respect of political oversight of the police investigation and the criminal investigation. Reaffirms support for the police inquiry. 2. Part B of Minutes of the 83rd Meeting of the Council of Ministers dated 29 May 2008. Lists those present at the meeting and those in attendance, and those from whom apologies had been received. B1: Refers to discussion concerning certain matters affecting the political oversight and independent audit of the police investigation into the historic delivery of child protection services in Jersey. Includes reference to the decision that responsibility for political oversight of the police investigation into the historic delivery of child protection services in Jersey should pass to Deputy A D Lewis, Assistant Minister for Home Affairs. Also refers to discussion of a request, submitted to the Chief Minister by Senator J L Perchard, Assistant Minister for Health and Social Services, that an immediate investigation be commissioned into the matter of whether the States of Jersey Police had knowingly misinformed him and the Minister for Home Affairs about the evidential status of certain finds at Haut de la Garenne. Also refers to discussion and decisions about revised arrangements for political oversight of the ongoing police investigation.
