• Letter dated 2 July 1998 from J A Clyde-Smith, Ogier and Le Masurier (Advocates and Solicitors) to Advocate P de C Mourant. Refers to an article published in the Jersey Evening Post on 6 June 1998 implicating Advocate Sinel in submissions to a New York Court to the effect that the judicial and political systems in Jersey are corrupt. Includes comments about the implications of Advocate Sinel's statements and requests formally for the issue to be investigated. • Article dated 6 June 1998 by Philip Jeune in the Jersey Evening Post titled US judge rejects fraud action. Relates to ruling of Judge Allen Schwartz of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York that Jersey is the propert forum for claims of investors in the Cantrade affairs to be considered following an affidavit of Advocate Philip Sinel claiming that his clients would not receive a fair trial in the Island alleging corruption of the political and judicial systems in Jersey. Includes details of Advocate Sinel's allegations and actions, particularly in relation to his criticism of indviduals from the political and judicial systems in Jersey. Refers to response of the Union Bank of Switzerland and provides further details of Judge Schwartz's ruling.
