July 25th 2007 - July 25th 2007
|Scope and Content|
Refers to concerns leading to Iris Le Feuvre's decision to convene an emergency meeting of the Jersey Child Protection Committee. Refers to a meeting dated 25 July 2007, and comments made by Health and Social Services Minister [Senator Stuart Syvret] criticising such social services and those who lead and provide the services. Discusses impact of comments made by [Senator Stuart Syvret] in respect to the increased risk to children requiring protection from abuse, the possibility that cases currently before the Royal Court may be prejudiced, and staff morale. Refers to a Serious Case Review by Dr Mark Jones, and states that the content of the report does not justify [Stuart Syvret's] statements. Discusses emails shared by [Stuart Syvret] regarding a child who had been sexually abused; notes the Jersey Child Protection Committee's request that [Stuart Syvret's] actions be investigated by the Data Protection Commissioner. Formally states the Jersey Child Protection Committee's lack of confidence in [Stuart Syvret's] ability to hold political responsibility for [Health and Social Services]. [For a copy of this Letter, see Exhibit JB9: C/D/AW2/A7/25/WD006765/9].
