Recalls seeing an advertisement for a teaching job at Les Chênes, noting that he visited the school and was shown around by Mario Lundy. Describes the application and interview process in respect of his appointment at Les Chênes as a PE teacher. Describes his role and responsibilities at Les Chênes, originally as a PE teacher and later as a team leader, explaining decision not to become a Deputy Headmaster of Headmaster at the school. Describes lack of training for teaching staff at Les Chênes, remarks about personal development and recollections of the introduction of restraint training for residential staff at Greenfields. Provides an overview of Les Chênes and Greenfields, including comments about the staff and the relationship between the staff and the children. Describes the structure at Les Chênes, detailing the shift system under which the teaching staff operated, the use of supply staff, and comments about the admissions process. Describes the general approach at Les Chênes, particularly in relation to education, activities and rules and regulations. Includes an explanation of the Merit Award Scheme used at Les Chênes, remarks about the home leave programme and how this linked to the Merit Award Scheme, and comments about the token economy and the manner in which pocket money was dealt with.
