Scope and Content

Provides details of early life and career prior to employment at Haut de la Garenne. Refers to mother's ill health, and the member of staff's childhood in the care of her paternal grandmother. Recalls education at St Helier Girls' School. Began employment at Haut de la Garenne at the age of 15 or 16 years old, following a conversation with a careers teacher at school in which the member of staff referenced the Sound of Music as her inspiration. Recalls needing to get two buses from St Lawrence to get to Haut de la Garenne. Recalls interview with Haut de la Garenne Superintendent Colin Tilbrook and potentially the [Deputy Superintendent]. Notes dislike of the [Deputy Superintendent]. Refers to Colin Tilbrook's [wife, the Matron]. Provides details of role and responsibilities at Haut de la Garenne. Recalls being homesick. Recalls climbing out of Haut de la Garenne with another young member of staff, and meeting the [Deputy Superintendent] on their way back to Haut de la Garenne [later clarified to meeting Colin Tilbrook].
