Scope and Content

Refers to information requested in reply to concerns raised by the member of [La Préférence] staff. Refers to a letter by the member of [La Préférence] staff. States that the member of [La Préférence] staff was actively encouraged by [a manager] to apply for a position at Heathfield Children's Home, referring to coaching offered by the [manager]. Refers to the member of [La Préférence] staff not ranking amongst the highest scorers of the 10 applicants. Notes acknowledgement that the member of [La Préférence] staff's circumstances should have been taken into consideration, and feedback provided in respect of her application. Notes acceptance that the member of [La Préférence] staff's application could have been better handled. Refers to a second concern held by the member of [La Préférence] staff, noting her application for a post at La Préférence. Notes complaint fo the member of [La Préférence] staff that she was not notified of other internal candidates being interviewed for the position at La Préférence. Refers to the member of [La Préférence] staff asking a new member of staff to assist with the preparation of a presentation. Notes that the new member of staff helped as requested, and was under no obligation to tell the [La Préférence] member of staff that she had also applied for the post. Notes suggestion by the member of [La Préférence] staff that the [manager] should have indicated that there was a second internal candidate applying for the post, applying that the [manager] could have predicted the candidate could gain access to the member of [La Préférence] staff's presentation. Refers to difficulty for a manager to predict that the [La Préférence] member of staff would request support for the presentation from the new member of staff. Argues that to have informed the [La Préférence] member of staff of a second internal applicant would have revealed the staff member's identity in a small staff group. Believes the [manager] to have acted appropriatedly. Notes action of the [manager] and an individual to be taken in good faith. Notes assessment by the [La Préférence] member of staff that the presentation went well. Refers to questions answered by the member of [La Préférence] staff, and her scores in relation to other other two candidates. Refers to letter by the member of [La Préférence] staff, and the member of [La Préférence] staff's difficulty in responding to increased demands placed upon staff. Notes that the [La Préférence] member of staff did not discuss her interview with a panel member. Suggests that the complainant discuss her concerns with Phil Dennett as Manager of the Children's Service.
