Scope and Content

Includes an introduction describing the purpose of the guidance as being to identify the procedures to be followed when a child is reported missing or absent from home or a care placement and to lay out responsibilities and expectations for police and other agencies. Includes definitions, and outlines guidance in relation to Children's Service responsibility, police response, longer absences, responsibilities of the police and Children's Service upon the safe return of a child, preventative measures, and information sharing. Includes appendices: a flowchart outlining the process to follow when a child is reported missing or absent from home or a care placement; a table detailing an initial risk assessment; and a flowchart outlining the process to follow regarding a second risk assessment.
