Scope and Content

Provides guidance to Independent Reviewing Officers [IROs], staff, partner agencies, children and their families, on the function of IROs in relation to case management and review of looked after children. Includes an introduction outlining aims and audience, status of the guidance, definitions and the practice context. Includes chapters on: an overview of the IRO role and functions; IRO responsibilities in the care planning and review process; considerations for specific groups of children; planning transition to adulthood; dispute resolution and complaints; and strategic and management responsibilities. Also includes an appendix regarding involving children with communication needs.
