Scope and Content

• Abuse victim 'left in family home visited by suspect' by Michael Morris. Relates to allegations made by Chief Inspector Alison Fossey in her evidence to the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry that during the early 2000s Children's Services were reluctant to act on cases where the police had not prosecuted, including an instance where Children's Services failed to remove an alleged sexual abuse victim from her family home despite the suspect being a regular visitor. Refers to comments by Chief Inspector Fossey about police failure between 2000 and 2005 to update databases meaning that certain cases went undiscovered and were not followed up, and her interaction with Children's Services staff including Danny Wherry. • Secret debate details to be open to public? by Michael Morris. Relates to a request by lawyers acting on behalf of the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry to the States Greffier Michael de la Haye to make available transcripts of a secret States debate on the suspension of former police chief Graham Power in 2008. Refers to confirmation by Deputy Mike Higgins that he would lodge a proposition asking for the transcripts to be released, noting allegations that the then Home Affairs Minister Andrew Lewis misled the States about the reasons for the suspension of Graham Power. Details comments by Oliver Glasgow, Catherine [Cathryn] McGahey and Frances Oldham about the matter. Column in the Comment section titled Shedding light on a dark time. Discusses matters relating to the suspension of former police chief Graham Power in 2008 and a request the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry to release transcripts of a States debate on 8 December 2008 regarding the suspension of Mr Power. Includes the following articles: • Hotel site planners get go-ahead for 17 homes by Toby Chiang. • Move for a law to regulate roadworkers. • Chamber: All we want for Christmas... by Christine Herbert. Also includes Letters to the Editor regarding the closure of the Limes Residential Nursing Home: • Limes nursing closure is shameful from Mike Pitman. • Is it purely coincidental that the new police HQ opposite needs more room? from Venetia Nixon.
