Provides a summary of the Report of the Care of Children Committee (1946), chaired by Dame Myra Curtis and appointed following Sir William Monckton's Report into the death of Dennis O'Neill in foster care in 1945 to report on the future of services for children in any form of out of home care. Sets out the key points of the Report and comments on the contents of the Report including: the introduction, Section I regarding existing statutory provision and administrative arrangements, and Section II regarding how children are cared for now. Also includes comments about matters covered including: adoption, boarding out, private fostering, institutions (residential communities), approved schools, remand homes, after care, local authority hostels, provision for mentally defective children, provision for physically handicapped children and emigration. Finishes with a discussion about the Report and references.
