Poursuites criminelles. The Poursuite Criminelles volumes cover criminal cases tried before the Royal Court from 1797 onwards. The volumes also include details of inquests from c.1806 onwards. These volumes are closed for 100 years so permission is required to view more recent volumes.
Public Registry. Registration of all transactions of immovable property such as land and houses began in 1602. Transactions or contracts from c.1800 onwards can be searched through the PRIDE database available at Jersey Archive. Contracts from 1602 - 1800 are available on microfilm.
Magistrates Court. The Magistrates Court consisting of the Causes Civiles and Causes Criminelles is concerned with civil and criminal matters of a less serious nature dating from 1854 and have a closure period of 100 years. The Magistrates Court is also responsible for the Youth and Petty Debts Courts. Petty Debts records begin in 1968 and previous records of this nature can be found in the Cour du Billet which ran from 1646 – 1964.
