Petition to the States Assembly on the proposal to fluoridate the piped water supply of the Island, brought by Senator J J Le Marquand. The petition states, 'That your Petitioners view with grave concern the implementation of the Public Health Committee's proposal to fluoridate the piped water supply of the Island, in that, (a) Whilst appreciating the object in view, ie, the preservation of childrens teeth-such preservation can be effected in an equally satisfactory manner by various other human means, with the co-operation of the parebts of such children. (b) Whereas assurances of comparative safety in the fluoridation of water have been given. Such assurances are viewed with extreme doubt. Taking into consideration the possibility of human error and the completely conflicting world medical opinion on the question of the absorbtion of poisonous fluoride. (c) That such a policy as is envisaged in the Public Health Committee's proposal is forcing every user of piped water in the Island to absorb this poison even in minute quantities, involves a policy of compulsory Medication and is a direct inviolation of the Freedom of the individual.' Includes 5,255 signatures.
